Bomb blast in Abuja less than 2 days after Jonathan’s daughter’s wedding...
Just less than 45 hours after the gathering of Nigeria’s crème de la crème for President Jonathan‘s daughter’s wedding in Abuja, a bomb blast has occurred in the capital city.
More than 200 people are reportedly feared dead in the explosion which rocked a highly populated motor park in Nyanya suburb of Abuja on the morning of Monday, April 14, 2014, Premium Times reports.
According to a reporter of Lagos based terrestrial TV Station TV Continental who was on the scene of the bomb blast, there were no survivors from five fully loaded buses that were massively hit by the bomb blast, and the perpetrators disguised as passengers.
Social networking platform Twitter has been buzzing with series of eyewitness accounts.
‘Bomb explosion in Nyanya, Abuja. At a popular motor park. Dead bodies everywhere,’ a user with the handle @Slim_Yax wrote. ‘More than 300 bodies deposited I hear. I just saw a luxurious bus full of bodies turned back cos Asokoro Hospital Mortuary is full,’ @boluxxxx tweeted.
Security officials and emergency units were also swiftly on ground few minutes after the bomb went off.
Nigerian singer Brymo also had something to say about the incessant bombings in the country. ‘Someday, maybe soon, we shall learn the true story behind this national tragedy; Maybe indeed ours is a lost cause, maybe Nigeria can’t be saved. But have we tried, like really tried?’ The singer wrote on Twitter.
No group has taken responsibility for the bomb blast yet but it is wildly believed that this might be the work of insurgent sect, Boko Haram. President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sadness by the loss of lives in the Nyanya bombing, his spokesman Reuben Abati revealed on Twitter.
‘President Jonathan saddened by loss of lives in Nyanya bombing,’ Reuben Abati (@abati1990) tweeted. ‘President Jonathan has ordered heightened security in Abuja following Nyanya bombing. President Jonathan extends his heartfelt condolences to bereaved families.’
