Commuters complain of heavy traffic after Nyanya explosion
It would be recalled that on Monday, April, 14, 2014, a bomb exploded at acrowded Nyanya Mass Transit Bus Park, Abuja, leaving at least 75 persons dead and hundreds injured.Commuters in the area say that it has become rather difficult to get transport to the city center.Some commuters say more motor parks should be provided, so that people wouldn't be concentrated in one place.Others note that the ban on small buses known as Araba could have contributed to the loss of many lives:on Monday, people died en mass when trying to get into high-capacitycommercial buses.Local residents say they now have towake up at 4 a.m. go catch available vehicles to town. Private cars ownershave started to impose transport fares for giving a lift.People urge the authorities to ensure24-hour security posts at the entrance to the city.The FCT Minister Bala Mohammed promises to deploy at least 100 buses imported from China to the Nyanya-Abuja route. The buses, he said, would be equipped with varioussecurity devices, such as detectors.Also, Mohammed has constituted a committee responsible for reconstructing, upgrading, or relocating the Nyanya park in a bid toenhance security and free flow of traffic. The reconstructed park would have necessary security features, theMinister assured. He appealed for the understanding of commuters andmotorists using the Mararaba–Nyanya–AYA road, as the Nyanya Park is being upgraded.
