Amaka Igwe Goes Home Today
As the remains of foremost producer, writer, director and a
leading player in the Nigerian motion picture industry, Amaka Igwe, are
laid to rest today in Ndiuche Arondizuogu in Imo State, her marital
home, hundreds of her colleagues are still pouring encomium and paying
glowing tributes on her.
At a special Service of
Songs/Tribute Night on Monday, 9 June at The Haven Events Centre, Ikeja
GRA, Lagos, hundreds of personalities from government, media, music,
business and Nollywood, gathered in honour of the Nollywood icon.
Guests
included Abike Dabiri and husband; Olu Jacobs; Adewunmi Ogunsanya,
Multichoice Nigeria Chairman; Richard Mofe-Damijo; Bukky Ajayi; Ali
Baba; Wunmi Obe; Kunle Bamtefa; Ngozi Nwosu; Bimbo Akintola; Nobert and
Gloria Young; Patrick and Ireti Doyle; Tony Umez; Kanayo .O. Kanayo; Ego
Boyo; Teju Babyface and a host of others.
Meanwhile,
Igwe has been immortalised on the cover of Nolly Silver Screen
magazine’s June edition. “Though the pain is still fresh in our hearts,
we know we just had to celebrate one of Nollywood’s legends,” said
Isabella Akinseye, Editor of Nolly Silver Screen.
“Indeed,
Amaka has made it easier for us as women to aspire to be great in the
industry. I remember reading her magazine TMC Box Office years ago.
Little did I know that the seeds were being sown to start my own
magazine? She inspired us without even knowing,” Akinseye added.
Amaka Igwe passed away on 29 April at age 51.
